1969-1971 Dodge Charger / Challenger and Plymouth Barracuda — enter a VIN and we’ll read off the car line, body, engine, model year and assembly plant from the factory codes.

13-character VIN, 1969-1971. Position 1 = car line, position 2 = price class, positions 3-4 = body style, position 5 = engine code (codes CHANGED between 1969 and 1970 -- never mix years), position 6 = model year, position 7 = assembly plant, positions 8-13 = sequential build number. VIN is on a plate on the driver-side dash (through the windshield) and on the certification label in the driver door jamb.

Read the fender tag bottom-to-top, left-to-right. Bottom row carries engine code, transmission code, and a VIN excerpt. Build date uses months 1-9 for Jan-Sep, then A=Oct, B=Nov, C=Dec, followed by a 2-digit day.

  • 1969 VIN engine codes are single-source (degeneratepress.com), cross-checked on engine codes only.
  • 1969 Plymouth Barracuda (car-line B) was still A-body; the E-body Barracuda/'Cuda begins with 1970.
  • Full per-year exterior paint color tables are extensive and only partially captured -- for exact paint name/code use mopar1.us or mymopar.com.
